- Cleanser – Double cleanse. Begin with an oil cleanser or a balm cleanser. Choose your second cleanser based on your skin type. Are you oily, dry, or both? Are you acne prone? Oily and combination skin types should use a gel or foaming cleanser, but these types of cleansers can be quite drying. Find a hydrating formula or alternate with a cream cleanser. Dry skin types should use a cream cleanser. If you are acne prone, specifically cystic acne, then being gentle is the best option for your skin barrier.
- Toner – Every skin type can benefit from a hydrating toner or an exfoliating toner. For exfoliating toners, use salicylic acid for oily, combination, and acne prone skin types. For dry skin types, use a glycolic acid and/or lactic acid exfoliating toner.
- Serum – Serums are based on skin concerns. If you want to target anti-aging, then use a retinol at night. If you want to brighten your skin, then use a vitamin C serum in the morning. If you want to target oil control, then use niacinamide at night. Less is better. Pick one and see how your skin reacts.
- Moisturizer – ALWAYS use moisturizer. This can be a light weight or heavy cream formula, but please use a moisturizer. Choose your moisturizer based on your skin type. The more oil production you have, then you can decide on how much hydration you want to add to your skin.
- SPF – ALWAYS use SPF. There are many options for SPF, like mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin, gel sunscreen for oily skin, and chemical sunscreen for dry to normal skin.
